This event will get you started on your beer journey. It is all about beer and the people who brew it.

We will explore the history of brewing from the Ancient Egyptians to the current day and reveal the secrets of the professional beer taster. We will examine eight important British beer styles using favourite beers, available on many British high streets. We will ask the question – 'what makes a great beer?'

This event is most suited to Beer Explorers

You are a beer explorer if you are just setting out on your discovery of beer. You have tried a few and you know there is much more to find out about beer. You would like to experiment but you need help in picking some new beers from the thousands available on draught, in bottle and in can. Trying new beers is fun.

What is included in the ticket price?

• A carefully selected range of 8 beers, with a 10cl industry standard tasting sample of each one. This is enough to allow you to check out the colour, aroma and taste of the beer whilst not overloading your palate which would spoil your enjoyment.
• Lots of background about the brewers and their breweries.
• Banter (that's your job)!
• A tricky competition, which can be undertaken as an individual or as a team of two. The prize is beer related and may include some interesting and rare books.
• Some snacks.
